European Championships 2018
The European Championships 2018 included European championships in seven sports . They took place from August 2 to 12, 2018 in the Scottish city of Glasgow ( United Kingdom ) and in the German capital Berlin .
At that time, the European championships in swimming (disciplines swimming , synchronized swimming , water jumping , open water swimming ), cycling (disciplines track cycling , road cycling , mountain biking , BMX ), rowing , triathlon , golf and gymnastics were held in Glasgow . In addition, the European Athletics Championships took place in Berlin from August 6th to 12th. Around 4500 athletes were expected for the competitions.
The European Championships create a new platform for sports, whose European championships have so far received different media coverage.
European championships
The European sports associations for athletics, swimming, cycling, golf, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon coordinated their respective continental championships as part of the first edition of the European Championships. At the time of this decision, Berlin had already been awarded the contract for the European Athletics Championships and Glasgow for the European Swimming Championships. Glasgow was entrusted with hosting the title fights from the other associations involved.

Competition venues
Most of the plants were in Berlin and Glasgow. There were also some plants outside of Glasgow. There were a total of 13 different competition venues.
Berlin
- Olympiastadion Berlin for athletics
- Breitscheidplatz as the start and finish of the competitions in walking and marathon as well as the qualifying round in the shot put the men
Glasgow
- Tollcross International Swimming Center for swimming and pool swimming
- Scotstoun Sports Campus for synchronized swimming
- Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for track cycling
- Streets of Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and Stirling for road cycling
- Cathkin Braes Mountain Bike Trails for Mountain Biking
- Knightswood Park for BMX
- The SSE Hydro for gymnastics or apparatus gymnastics
Outside of Glasgow
- Loch Lomond in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park for open water swimming
- Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh for diving
- PGA Centenary Course, Gleneagles in Auchterarder for golf
- Strathclyde Country Park in Lanarkshire for rowing and triathlon
Participating nations and teams
A total of 3,791 athletes from 52 nations and two teams were registered (as of August 4, 2018). At the European Championships in athletics , no athletes were allowed under the Russian flag, but some were allowed to compete under a neutral flag ( Authorized Neutral Athletes (ANA)). In addition, a recognized refugee appeared at the European Athletics Championships as a refugee team ( Athlete Refugee Team (ART)).

Media and sponsors
All of Europe's major public television broadcasters broadcast the European Championships 2018. These included the BBC in Great Britain, ARD / ZDF in Germany, France Télévisions in France, RAI in Italy and RTVE in Spain. Other members of the EBU include VRT (Belgium), HRT (Croatia), DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland), RTÉ (Ireland), NOS (Netherlands), NRK (Norway), TVP (Poland), SRG SSR ( Switzerland) and SVT / TV4 (Sweden). The spread of the broadcast was also supplemented by a contract with Eurosport . By April 2018, a total of 40 EBU members had reached agreements with the EBU to broadcast the European Championships.
The organizers in Glasgow had four official partners (People Make Glasgow, the Scottish Government, Strathmore and Spar), Berlin five (Spar, Le Gruyere, Nike, Toyo Tires and Eurovision) as well as an additional sponsorship level from "Official Supporters".
The championships were staged under a new brand with the “Mark of a Champion”, a star-like, six-colored logo.
