The Union Européenne de Gymnastique (UEG) is the European gymnastics union based in Lausanne . It is one of the four continental gymnastics federations that belong to the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG).
history
The first European championships in apparatus gymnastics were organized by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) in 1955 , as there was no European Gymnastics Federation. The first discussions about the establishment of one arose in 1977 during a FIG congress in Rome. However, it was five years before the constituent meeting of the Union Européenne de Gymnastique took place on March 27 and 28, 1982 in Luxembourg . The founding members were the gymnastics associations from Belgium, Denmark, Spain, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, the Federal Republic of Germany, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
In 1984 the UEG organized the European Junior Championships in apparatus gymnastics in cooperation with the FIG. The first competition organized by the UEG in-house was the 1986 European Junior Championships in apparatus gymnastics in Karlsruhe . Competitions in rhythmic gymnastics and other gymnastics disciplines were added later. In addition, the UEG regularly organizes training camps for juniors.
Member associations
48 national associations from Europe belong to the UEG. Germany is the Federation Turner Germans represent Austria by the Austrian Gymnastics Federation , Switzerland by the Swiss Gymnastics Association and Liechtenstein by the Liechtenstein Gymnastics and Athletics Federation.
