György Piller

György Piller (born June 19, 1899 in Eger , † September 6, 1960 in San Francisco ; full name György Piller-Jekelfalussy ) was a Hungarian fencer and trainer . He won two gold medals in Olympics .

Career

György Piller pursued a military career and began fencing during his training. He became world champion saber singles at the fencing world championships in 1930, 1931 and 1933. At the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam , Piller competed with the teams in the epee and foil competition, but could not win a medal. Four years later, at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , Piller was able to win the gold medal in the saber singles and with the saber team.

After his active career, György Piller became a fencing trainer. After the invasion of Hungary by Soviet troops in 1956, he turned to the USA and emigrated. There he continued to work as a trainer.
