Virginia Kravarioti ( Greek Βιργινία Κραβαριώτη , born April 27, 1984 in Athens , Greece) is a Greek regatta sailor. Her achievements celebrated at the Olympic Games: 2004 in Greece reached in the Laser Radial 9th place and in China in 2008 in the Yngling - Keelboat (with Sofia Bekatorou and Sofia Papadopoulou) the bronze medal.

Life

Virginia Kravarioti began sailing at the age of ten on an optimist and took part in a regatta for the first time when she was fourteen. In 1998 she won the Greek Championship in the Dinghy Laser Radial , a slightly smaller version of the single-handed dinghy Laser. The next year she took part in her first international regatta, the Youth Worlds regatta in Finland.

For the next few years, Kravarioti continued to sail mainly in the Laser Radial. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , where there were no competitions in the Laser Radial and no women-only competitions in the laser, she competed in the boat class Europe and reached 9th place. The following year, again in the Laser Radial, she achieved fourth place at the international Holland Regatta in Medemblik, the Netherlands . At the World Championships in Fortaleza , Brazil , however, she only started in the less powerful class of the Silver Fleet , in which she finished seventh. She finished the Laser Radial World Championships in 2006 in Los Angeles , 2007 in Cascais, Portugal, and 2008 in Auckland, respectively, in 18th, 43rd and 40th places. At the European Championships in 2005 in Split, Croatia, Kravarioti finished 25th (29 .), 2006 in Riccione, Italy, 31st, 2007 in The Hague, Netherlands, 11th place.

Kravarioti also began to train with 470 World Champion and Olympic Champion Sofia Bekatorou and Sofia Papadopoulou (Σοφία Παπαδοπούλου) on the keelboat Yngling . The three Greek women finished tenth at the 2008 Yngling European Championship in Blanes, Spain , which is also open to non-European sailors (ninth in the purely European ranking). Bekatorou and Papdopoulou had already qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in China with their previous sailing partner Christina Charamountani (Χριστίνα Χαραμουντάνη) . Although a laser radial competition was held for women for the first time at these games, Kravarioti then took part in the games in Yngling. At the Olympic Yngling competition held in Qingdao , Bekatorou, Papadopoulou and Kravarioti were able to improve in the individual races after an initial 10th and 12th place up to a second place (5th race) and finally won the bronze medal.
