The Yngling is a sailing yacht that was built in 1967 by the Norwegian Jan Herman Linge to complement the Olympic sailing yacht Soling .

History and design

The name is not derived from the Norwegian-Swedish royal dynasty of the Ynglingers , but from the Norwegian word for youth - Linge designed the boat for his son, who was then a teenager.

The Yngling and its crew cannot sink. For unsinkable buoyancy provide the stern and bow . The new boats have been built with double floors and self-bailers since 1991, which ensures additional safety.

Thanks to the strict class rules ( one-design ) regulated uniformity of shell, rig and sails which by the ISAF to be monitored was a battle of material can be prevented. At world championships, new and old boats can be found in the forefront. The world champion of the year 2000 sailed with a ship built in 1971.

The Yngling can be easily tracked with a mid- range car .

The ship can be steered safely and easily by two people , even under spinnaker . For international competitions, the class rules prescribe a three-person crew.

Regatta and races

At the world championship from June 30th to July 8th 2006 in La Rochelle the German women's team Ulrike Schümann / Runa Kappel / Ute Höpfner became vice world champions.

2004 Summer Olympics

On November 10, 2000, the Yngling class was selected by ISAF as the Olympic women's keelboat class for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. This meant that a total of 15 women's teams were admitted to the regatta in Athens. The starting places were awarded in world and European championships, only one team per country could start.

2008 Summer Olympics

At the 2008 Summer Olympics , the German women's team Ulrike Schümann / Ute Höpfner / Julia Bleck took fourth place.

For the 2012 Olympic Games, the Yngling was replaced by the Elliott 6m .
