Aldo Montano (born November 23, 1910 in Livorno ; † September 2, 1996 there ) was an Italian fencer .

successes

Aldo Montano secured several medals and title wins with the team at world championships, but he was also successful in the individual. After three runner-up titles between 1934 and 1937, gold medals followed with the team in 1938 , 1947 and 1950 . In individual he became world champion in 1938 and 1947. He took part in two Olympic Games and won a silver medal with the team at both. Both in Berlin in 1936 and in London in 1948 , the Italian team only had to admit defeat to the Hungarian team.

Life

He came from a large fencing family, with one exception all saber fencers. His son was Mario Aldo Montano ( Olympic champion 1972 and silver medal 1976 and 1980 , world champion 1973 and 1974 ), his nephews Carlo Montano (silver medal Olympia 1976 in foil), Tommaso Montano (silver medal Olympia 1976 ) and Mario Tullio Montano ( Olympic champion 1972 and silver medal 1976 ). His grandson Aldo Montano was also a fencer ( Olympic champion 2004 , world champion 2011 ).
