György Nébald

György Nébald (born March 9, 1956 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian saber fencer , Olympic champion and six-time world champion.

Life

He is married to the Hungarian sword fencer Ildikó Mincza-Nébald . His brother Rudolf Nébald won the bronze medal with him at the 1980 Olympic Games .

In 1978 in Hamburg György Nébald became team world champion for the first time . At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , Nébald received bronze with the team. In 1981 in Clermont-Ferrand and 1982 in Rome he was again team world champion. At the 1983 World Championships in Vienna he won silver with the team, and in 1985 in Barcelona with the bronze team. In addition, he became individual world champion . In 1987 Nébald won silver in singles at the World Championships in Lausanne . In 1988 at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , Nébald received gold with the team, in the individual he reached fifth place. In 1990 he was again individual world champion in Lyon and got silver with the team. 1991 was his year with the highest number of medals , he became team European champion in Vienna and won bronze in individual, further he became team world champion in Budapest and also achieved bronze in individual. In 1992 at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Nébald received silver with the team, in the individual he is 25th.
