János Garay (born  February 23, 1889 in Budapest , † probably March 30, 1945 in Mauthausen concentration camp ) was a Hungarian fencer who was considered one of the world's best saber fencers in the 1920s .

At the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris with the Hungarian team, he won a silver medal in the team competition and the bronze medal in the individual competition in saber fencing. Four years later at the 1928 Games in Amsterdam he was Olympic champion with the team. After the occupation of his home country by Germany during the Second World War , János Garay was one of the roughly 437,000 Hungarian Jews who were deported to the Nazi concentration and extermination camps during the Holocaust . He probably died in Mauthausen concentration camp in March 1945 .
