Nedo Nadi
Nedo Nadi (born June 9, 1894 in Livorno , † January 29, 1940 in Rome ) was an Italian saber and foil fencer.
At the Summer Olympics in Stockholm in 1912 , Nadi won Olympic gold foil fencing at the age of 18 and was considered a fencing prodigy . At the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp , he won a total of five gold medals . With his brother Aldo Nadi , also a very successful fencer, he was in all three victorious teams in 1920.
In 1921 Nadi became a fencing master and was no longer considered an amateur , which is why he was no longer allowed to compete in the Olympic Games. Until 1926 he worked as a fencing teacher in Buenos Aires ; on his return to Italy he became the Italian professional champion in all three branches of service. From 1935 to 1940 he was President of the Italian Fencing Federation. In 1940 he committed suicide .
In the Olympic Village in Munich a street and the Nadisee lake were named after Nedo Nadi.
