Kim Young-ho (born April 9, 1971 in Nonsan ) is a former South Korean foil fencer who became Olympic champion in 2000 .
successes
Kim Young-ho won several medals at the Asian Games . With the team he secured gold in Hiroshima in 1994 , bronze in Bangkok in 1998 and silver in Busan in 2002 . In 1998 he won silver in singles in Bangkok. He won other medals at world championships . In individual he won silver in Cape Town in 1997 and bronze in Seoul in 1999 , as well as bronze in the team competition in 1998 in La Chaux-de-Fonds .
Kim took part in the Olympic Games three times . In 1992 he reached the 37th place in the individual and eighth place with the team in Barcelona . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta he was defeated in the quarterfinals by the later Olympic champion Alessandro Puccini with 14:15 and finished the competition in eighth place. He finished seventh with the team. Four years later he reached the battle for the gold medal after victories over Serhij Holubyzkyj in the quarter-finals and Dmitri Shevchenko in the semifinals. In this he defeated Ralf Bißdorf with 15:14 and became Olympic champion.
