Philippe Louis René Marcel Omnès (born August 6, 1960 in Paris ) is a former French foil fencer . He became an Olympic and world champion.

successes

Philippe Omnès won the singles world champion in Lyon in 1990 , after having become vice world champion in Denver in 1989 . With the team he was also vice world champion in Cape Town in 1982 and in 1987 in Lausanne and won two bronze medals. Omnès took part in the Olympic Games four times . In 1984 he finished seventh in the individual competition in Los Angeles , but with the team he reached the semi-finals, which were lost to Italy . The French team won the battle for bronze against Austria 9: 3. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he was ninth in the individual and sixth with the team. Four years later he moved into the singles final in Sydney , where he defeated Serhiy Holubyzkyj and became Olympic champion . He finished the team competition in seventh place. At his last Olympic participation in Atlanta in 1996 , he reached the quarter-finals again. After a loss to Franck Boidin , he finished seventh.
