József Gyuricza (born January 16, 1934 in Hódmezővásárhely ; † March 11, 2020 ) was a Hungarian foil fencer .

successes

József Gyuricza was in 1955 in Rome in the individual and in 1957 in Paris with the team champion . In the team competition in 1955 in Rome, 1961 in Turin , 1962 in Buenos Aires and 1966 in Moscow, he won the vice world championship. There are also three other bronze medals with the team. In 1962 Gyuricza was also part of the saber team, which won silver. He took part in the Olympic Games three times . At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 he reached the final round with the Hungarian team, in which they lost out against France and Italy . The battle for the bronze medal was decided by the team, which in addition to Gyuricza also consisted of Endre Tilli , Mihály Fülöp , József Marosi , József Sákovics and Lajos Somodi , against the United States 9: 5. In the individual competition he reached the final round, which he finished fifth. In 1960 in Rome he just missed another medal win as fourth with the team, in 1964 in Tokyo he finished the team competition in seventh place. In Tokyo he also competed in singles and was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
