Andrea Borella

Andrea Borella (* 23. June 1961 in Mestre ) is a former Italian foil - fencers . He took part in three Olympic Games and won a gold medal.

Career

Borella was European Champion in foil singles in 1981 and 1983. He started at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in foil singles and with the foil team . In the individual he was able to reach fifth place, with the team he won gold, although Borella lost all appearances in the final. Four years later, at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , Bortella could not build on his successes in Los Angeles. With the team he reached seventh place, in the individual only 41st place. When he last participated in the Olympics, in 1992 in Barcelona , Borella was able to reach fifth place in the foil singles again. With the team he managed a sixth place.

Borella won an individual title at the 1986 World Fencing Championships and four gold, five silver and one bronze medal with the team. He married the fencer Francesca Bortolozzi . His cousin Fabio Dal Zotto became Olympic champion in 1976 with the foil.
