Luigi Carpaneda
Luigi Arturo Carpaneda (born November 28, 1925 in Milan ; † December 14, 2011 ibid) was an Italian foil fencer , Olympic champion and world champion.
Most important successes
At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , Carpaneda won gold in the men's team floret, along with Edoardo Mangiarotti , Manlio Di Rosa , Giancarlo Bergamini , Antonio Spallino and Vittorio Lucarelli . At the subsequent 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , the Italian team was defeated with him by the USSR in the final and won silver. In Rome, Carpaneda was team world champion in foil in 1955 . In 1957 in Paris, his team won bronze in this competition .
Luigi Carpaneda died on December 14, 2011 at the age of 86.
Personal
The enthusiastic sailor won the Three Quarter Ton Cup in 1981 , was President of the Italian Sailing Association and was five times captain of the Italian team at the Admiral's Cup . He died in December 2011 at the age of 86 when he was hit as a pedestrian by a car in Milan whose driver ignored a red traffic light.
