Thorsten Weidner (born December 29, 1967 in Lauda ) is a former German fencer who competed for the Tauberbischofsheim fencing club . In 1989 he was German single champion with the foil . At the 1992 Olympics , he won gold with the team.
Life
Thorsten Weidner started for the Tauberbischofsheim fencing club and attended the Tauberbischofsheim commercial school . After he had won silver with the team after defeats in the final against the Italians at the 1985 World Fencing Championships and 1986 at the World Fencing Championships , the team became world champions against France in 1987 with Mathias Gey , Matthias Behr , Klaus Reichert , Ulrich Schreck and Thorsten Weidner. With Thomas Endres instead of Klaus Reichert, the team won silver at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, when the team from the Soviet Union lost in the final.
It was followed by team silver at the 1989 World Fencing Championships against the Soviet Union. At the World Fencing Championships in 1990 Thorsten Weidner was fourth in both the individual and team rankings. A year later, the German team lost in the final against the Cubans. In the individual final Thorsten Weidner lost to his teammate Ingo Weißenborn .
At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Thorsten Weidner won gold with the team, together with Alexander Koch and Ulrich Schreck from Bonn, and Udo Wagner and Ingo Weißenborn from Tauberbischofsheim . For this he received the silver bay leaf on June 23, 1993.
At the fencing world championship in 1993 , the team with Uwe Römer instead of Ulrich Schreck won the world championship. A year later, Weidner won bronze in the individual ranking. In the World Cup final with the team, the German team lost to the Italians.
