The wine town of Lauda-Königshofen is located in the Main-Tauber district , the northernmost district of Baden-Württemberg between the district town of Tauberbischofsheim and the large district town of Bad Mergentheim in the region known today as Tauberfranken .

The water protection area Tauberaue, Lauda-Königshofen with the WSG no. 128215 covers a protected area of ​​5,424.44 hectares. This makes it one of the largest water protection areas in the Main-Tauber district .

20th and 21st centuries

On January 1, 1975, the city of Lauda merged with the city of Königshofen and the community of Unterbalbach as part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg to form the city of Lauda-Königshofen. The communities of Marbach and Oberbalbach were added. On January 1, 1974, the communities Beckstein, Gerlachsheim and Heckfeld were merged with the city of Lauda to form a new city of Lauda. Deubach ( Mergentheim district ), Messelhausen and Sachsenflur came to Königshofen and Oberlauda to Lauda as early as January 1, 1972 .

The thirty-year history of the Lauda-Königshofen air force base since October 1963 ended in March 2004 with the abandonment of the 19.8 hectare Tauberfranken barracks on the outskirts of Lauda. The closure of the site by the former 1,000 soldiers and civilian workers was associated with significant losses in economic and purchasing power. The formerly stationed units included two departments of the telecommunications regiment 32, later the radar guidance department 23.

dialect

The Lauda and Königshöfer dialect, which is only spoken in a very small area, belongs to the deaf-green dialect. This is attributed to the East Franconian language area .

Christianity

Most of the residents are Roman Catholic (68.9%), 17.9% are Protestants . The city's Catholic churches belong to the Lauda-Königshofen pastoral care unit in the Tauberbischofsheim deanery of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

In 1984 the Protestant parish was divided and Königshofen became independent together with Grünsfeld and some other smaller towns. The Protestant community of Lauda today includes Lauda, ​​Gerlachsheim, Oberlauda and Heckfeld with approx. 1800 members.

Islam

The Lauda Mosque has been an Islamic prayer house in the city since 1987 .

Municipal council

The parish council typically has 26 honorary members who are elected for five years. The municipal councils use the designation city council. The number of members can increase through compensatory seats (total 2019: 29 seats; 2014: 29). In addition, the mayor acts as the municipal council chairman with voting rights.

The Unechte Teilorteschahl guarantees the districts a fixed number of seats: from Lauda there are at least eight, from Königshofen at least four, from Gerlachsheim at least three, from Oberlauda and Unterbalbach at least two councils each, from Beckstein, Deubach, Heckfeld, Marbach, Messelhausen, Oberbalbach and Sachsenflur there is a local council.

Gerlachsheim, Lauda and Königshofen are on the Taubertal cycle path, a cycle path in Tauberfranken. The approximately 180 km long Jakobsweg Main-Taubertal leads through Gerlachsheim, Lauda, ​​Beckstein, Königshofen and Sachsenflur. The 130 km Taubertal panorama trail also runs through the city.

The event rooms of Kulturschock e.V. are located in the old schoolhouse in the Königshofen district. V. Sports

FV Lauda , founded in 1913, played from 1997 to 2006 in the Baden-Württemberg Football League , where he achieved his best position as runner-up in 2000.

The gymnastics and sports club (ETSV) Lauda, ​​which is open to all railway workers, combines handball, volleyball, athletics, swimming, gymnastics, table tennis and karate under one organizational roof. The very large table tennis department of ETSV Lauda has been providing several of the strongest teams in the region in the various categories since 1954. She had her most successful period from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s when she played with the first team in the national league.   • On the second weekend in June, the Lauda Wine Festival is celebrated in the old town of Lauda, ​​which is supported by many regional associations.

Water supply

The Taubertal waterworks, built in Dittigheim from 2015 to 2017, supplies around 40,000 people from three cities and three municipalities, as well as industry and commerce in the central Taubertal, with drinking water . At Lauda station , the Lauda – Wertheim line branches off from the Frankenbahn , and at Königshofen station, the Crailsheim – Königshofen line joins it. The third access point in the city is the Gerlachsheim stop on the Frankenbahn. The Sachsenflur stops on the Frankenbahn and Unterbalbach on the Crailsheim – Königshofen railway, however, were closed.

In the Königshofen district, the federal road 290 ( Tauberbischofsheim - Westhausen ) and the federal road 292 (to Bad Schönborn ) meet. The connection point to the Autobahn 81 towards Würzburg / Heilbronn is only a few minutes away from Lauda via the B 290 .
