Assamstadt is a municipality in the Main-Tauber district in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg .
geography
Geographical location
Assam town with his community area of 17.2 square kilometers in 300-401 meters in Taubergrund , the hills in the watershed area of between Tauber and Jagst in the southwest of the Main-Tauber-circle at the junction of partially covered with loess Kocher-Jagst levels for Shell-lime-shaped building land from Umpfer and Jagst. The Erlenbach , whose headwaters arise around Assamstadt, drains west into the Jagst. The exit of the Erlenbach from the district is also its lowest point with a height of about 295 meters. The highest point is reached by the terrain to the southwest of the settlement in the Kuhweide forest at a height of around meters.

Assamstadt includes the residential and industrial community Assamstadt ( ⊙ ) and the residential area Wustsiedlung ( ⊙ ) as well as the abandoned villages of Dachtel, Hartbach, Hof am See and Neidingen (Neidel).
Neighboring communities
The community borders on the city of Boxberg in the north, the city of Bad Mergentheim in the east, Dörzbach in the south and the city of Krautheim in the west , both in the Hohenlohe district .
Protected areas
With the Assamstadt nature reserve there has been an 84 hectare reserve since 1981. This is located in the district of Assamstadt and serves to preserve the roof valley and the slopes in its scenic beauty and uniqueness. The FFH area Westlicher Taubergrund lies partly in the district of Assamstadt.
There are also three natural monuments in the area of the municipality of Assamstadt .

history
Assamstadt was first mentioned in a document in 1228 . In 1806 the place came to Baden .
In March 1945, shortly before the end of the Second World War , American soldiers came to Assamstadt from the west. However, the entire village was spared from the effects of war.

Community archive
The archive of the municipality of Assamstadt was brought into the sub-archive of the Main-Tauber district in the Main-Tauber archive network . The archive network was set up in 1988 in the former hospital of the Bronnbach monastery under the auspices of the Wertheim State Archive, which was founded in 1978 .
religion
Since the Reformation passed Assamstadt , the place is still influenced by Roman Catholicism today. The Catholic churches of the community belong to the pastoral care unit Krautheim-Ravenstein-Assamstadt in the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
Spiritual care for the Protestant minority is provided by the Protestant community in Krautheim .

Municipal council
The local council has 12 honorary members who are elected for five years. In addition, the mayor acts as the municipal council chairman with voting rights.
In the local elections in 2019 , the composition of the municipal council was determined by majority vote , because all candidates in the Free Citizens' List stood for election together. The turnout was 75.0% (2014: 70.3%).

Buildings and monuments
Old and new St. Kilian's Church
The oldest parts of the Old Kilian's Church in the center of Assamstadt date back to the 12th century. After an eventful history and the construction of the modern St. Kilian's Church , the old church had stood empty since 1973 and was gradually falling into disrepair. From 1991 to 1994 the old church was renovated and converted into a community center.
Cemetery chapel
Another historic church has been preserved in the village with the cemetery chapel .
Way of the Cross to the Steffeskirchle
The wood-carved Assamstadt Way of the Cross with fourteen stations begins in the forest above the Asmundhalle. From there, the Way of the Cross leads up the mountain to the Steffeskirchle. A few hundred meters further there is also a Marian grotto in the forest.

Biking and hiking trails
There are several cycling and hiking trails around the place that lead past various cultural monuments. Assamstadt is on the Liebliches Taubertal cycle path - the sporty one .
Kneipp facility
At the end of the village in the direction of Bad Mergentheim there is a Kneipp facility in an industrial area.
Assamstadt Carnival
Assamstadt is known in the region for its carnival . The Fasnachtsgesellschaft Assamstadter Schlackohren e. V. organizes in Schlackohrhausen during Carnival time, in addition to three ceremonial sessions, a children's show session and a large Rose Monday parade.

The agriculture still plays a major role, are mainly grown wheat and spelled , and brewing barley .

Road traffic
The community is connected to the trunk road network via the Boxberg junction of the A 81, twelve kilometers away . State and district roads create the connection to the neighboring cities and communities.

The previous connection to the rail network has been lost with the discontinuation of the Jagst Valley Railway .
education
Assamstadt has a primary school with general education up to grade 4. There is also a Roman Catholic kindergarten in town.
