A part of the Tauberland natural area in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria is referred to as Taubergrund , in whose area a section of the eponymous Tauber is located. The Taubergrund , as a natural spatial unit No. 129.3 of the main unit group Neckar- and Tauber-Gäuplatten, has four subdivision units in the second decimal place: The Middle Taubertal (No. 129.30), the Vorbachtal (No. 129.31), the Wittigbachtal (No. 129.32) and the Taubertal near Bieberehren (No. 129.33).
Because of its numerous wayside shrines and other small monuments with images of Mary, the Taubergrund, together with the Taubertal and the building land, has also been called the Madonnenland since the 1920s.
