Gas exchange

A vapor recovery system is a tank technical means for the reduction of volatile organic compounds (English: VOC , volatile organic compounds ) in the distribution and storage of gasoline at filling stations and bearings (STAGE I).

When gasoline is poured into storage tanks, a return device returns the displaced part of the fuel-air mixture - which is above the liquid gasoline in the storage tank - to the tank of the tanker truck that is delivering or delivering it . Like gas recirculation , this measure contributes significantly to reducing emissions of hydrocarbons .

Tank trucks are generally only allowed to discharge petrol into storage tanks by gravity . Active support from a motor-driven pump or similar is prohibited by law. The fuel vapors displaced in the storage tank are returned to the tank of the truck via a second line (the pendulum line). The ban does not apply to the delivery of diesel fuel .

The legal requirements for such a gas displacement system are in the Federal Republic of Germany in the ordinance on the limitation of emissions of volatile organic compounds when transferring and storing petrol, fuel mixtures or raw gasoline (20th BImSchV) of May 27, 1998 ( Federal Law Gazette I p. 1174 ) regulated, last amended on March 24, 2017 ( Federal Law Gazette I p. 656 ). This ordinance transposes Directive 94/63 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of December 20, 1994 into German law.
