The Roman Catholic Old Kilian Church in Assamstadt in the Main-Tauber district was first built in the 12th century. The church stands in the center of town and Assam is the Holy. Kilian ordained . Expansions followed in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1971/72 a new Kilian's Church was built in Assamstadt. The old St. Kilian's Church has served as a community center since 1994.

history

The construction of the lower part of the tower dates back to the 12th century. The church was first mentioned in a document in 1450. In 1668 a big fire destroyed the church. It was not until 1711 to 1712 that a new church was built in the baroque style. An expansion followed from 1863 to 1866, which corresponded to a completely new building: the church interior was expanded to include the side aisles, galleries were built in and the chancel was relocated to the west.

In 1971/72 the St. Kilian's Church was rebuilt: The baroque figures of the church patron could be transferred to the new church, the two side altars and the high altar were brought to Kupprichhausen , where they can still be seen in the church today.

From 1973 the old Kilian's Church stood empty. After successful renovation work, it has served as a community center since 1994.

The old Kilian's Church belongs to the pastoral care unit Krautheim-Ravenstein-Assamstadt, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
