The cemetery chapel in Assamstadt

The cemetery chapel in Assamstadt in the Main-Tauber district was built in 1873.

Until 1819, the deceased were buried in the cemetery around the Old Kilian Church. When this cemetery became too small, it was moved to its current location, where there was already a Wendelinus chapel, which is said to have been slightly larger than today's cemetery chapel.

In 1873 today's cemetery chapel was built in place of the dilapidated Wendelinus chapel. The chapel and the cemetery were owned by the municipality of Assamstadt from the start. It is a rectangular building with a polygonal choir and roof turrets. The neo-Gothic chapel contained the decorative paintings typical of the last third of the 19th century. After a renovation in 1909, the chapel was presented in a light "English red". The church patron, St. Wendelinus, found a place to the right of the altar. On the back wall of the chapel there are statues of St. Joseph, St. Rita, and St. Francis, as well as memorial plaques for the missing and fallen soldiers of both world wars.

In 1971, a new part of the cemetery and a mortuary were inaugurated on Sunday of the Dead . In 1990 the cemetery was expanded again.

The cemetery chapel with the cemetery cross is a listed building as a whole .
