history
middle Ages
In 1312 Count Ludwig von Rieneck gave the place to the Aschaffenburg Abbey . Großrinderfeld later came to the diocese of Würzburg .
In Großrinderfeld there was a special feature that is more familiar from cities. A “ Hague ” completely surrounded the village as a closed fortification. The course is described in detail in Behringer's village chronicle. The fortifications consisted of a trench with an adjoining wooden fence or an earth wall with a wooden fence. There were two openings, the lower and the upper gate. Today only street names indicate the former existence. The two gates were opened by a night watchman at 6 a.m. and closed again at 10 p.m.
Modern times
In 1583 Großrinderfeld came to the Electorate of Mainz , where it initially belonged to the Office of Tauberbischofsheim and later to the Upper Office of Bischofsheim an der Tauber . In 1806 it fell to the Grand Duchy of Baden . In Baden, the office again belonged to the Oberamt Tauberbischofsheim , which later became the Tauberbischofsheim district , with which Großrinderfeld was opened in 1973 in what is now the Main-Tauber district . In 1866 one of the last battles of the German War took place near Gerchsheim .
Großrinderfeld received market rights on March 16, 1699 . The original document is in the town hall of the municipality. It was signed by " Lotharius Franz , Archbishop of the Holy Roman Empire of Germania, Ertz Chancellor and Elector, Bishop of Bamberg". It allows the community of Großrinderfeld to hold two annual and cattle markets "forever".
Incorporations
In 1924 Hof Baiertal and on December 31, 1972 Ilmspan were incorporated. Today's community was created on January 1, 1975 through the union of the communities Gerchsheim, Großrinderfeld and Schönfeld.
