history
middle Ages
The place name was first mentioned in the 14th century. In 1335/45 Goeurichshein , 1369 Genrichsheim and 1434 Gerichsheim were mentioned as personal names . The place name was derived from Gerik's home . Despite being mentioned relatively late, the place can probably be assigned to an older settlement layer.
Gerchsheim was once the Fronhof of the Schottenkloster in Würzburg with jurisdiction over its property. The patronage of the place was probably taken over by the lords of Zimmer over the Counts of Rieneck and later the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg .
Modern times
At the end of the Thirty Years' War , Gerchsheim came to the Grünsfeld office in Würzburg . In a contract of 1592, however, the tithe rule was reserved specifically for the Tauberbischofsheim office, as before. In 1803 Gerchsheim fell to Salm and in 1806 to Baden. From 1813 the Tauberbischofsheim district office , founded in the same year, was responsible for Gerchsheim, from 1840 again the Grünsfeld office and from 1849 again the Tauberbischofsheim district office. With this, Gerchsheim was assigned to the Tauberbischofsheim district in 1938 and to the newly formed Main-Tauber district in 1973 .
On January 1, 1975, Gerchsheim became part of Großrinderfeld as part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg . Until then, Gerchsheim was an independent municipality.
