Schönfeld (colloquially Schehfáld ) is one of four districts of the community Großrinderfeld in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Schönfeld is about six kilometers east of Großrinderfeld. The Großrinderfelder district of Gerchsheim is located about four kilometers to the northwest . After about a kilometer in a south-westerly direction, the district of Ilmspan follows .

history

In 1234 the place name was first mentioned as Sconfeld (beautiful field). After the local noble family died out, the lords of Wertheim followed as fiefs. Thereafter Kurmainz received the property rights and sovereign rights.

On January 1, 1975, Schönfeld became part of Großrinderfeld as part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg. Until then, Schönfeld was an independent municipality.

In the center of Schönfeld is the Roman Catholic parish church of St. Vitus. This is assigned to the pastoral care unit Großrinderfeld-Werbach of the deanery Tauberbischofsheim .

A late Gothic castle from 1376 consisting of two buildings is located in the village.
