The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Vitus in Schönfeld , a district of the community Großrinderfeld in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1974 and is consecrated to St. Vitus .

history

After the church of Schönfeld, built in 1827, was in dire need of renovation in the 1960s, it was decided to build a completely new church. In 1969 the former church and rectory were demolished. Only the church tower was preserved. Under the direction of Pastor Josef Kühner, a modern, large church with a parish hall and a weekday church was built according to plans by Manfred Schmitt-Fiebig . On June 30, 1974, Archbishop Hermann Schäufele of Freiburg inaugurated the newly built church.

The St. Vitus Church belongs to the pastoral care unit Großrinderfeld-Werbach, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

There is also a beautiful group of figures of the local saints St. Vitus, St. Joseph , and St. Laurence . On the left side of the altar there is a baroque resurrection group with the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph , which was donated by the Tauberbischofsheim merchant Boegner. There is a Pietà in the tower chapel. In front of the church, on the church square, stands the Ludersgrotto and the memorial to the fallen and missing of the two world wars.
