Unterbalbach is a district of Lauda-Königshofen in the Main-Tauber district , the northernmost district of Baden-Württemberg .
geography
The place is in the Taubertal between Edelfingen and Königshofen on the Romantic Road . Unterbalbach has approx. 1,700 inhabitants and an area of 5.17 km².
history
The village belonged to the Lauda office . This had a number of changing rulers until 1506 and was then part of the diocese of Würzburg until its secularization in 1803. It came first to the principality of Leiningen . After the principality was dissolved in 1806 by the Rhine Federation Act , it was then added to the Grand Duchy of Baden .
On January 1, 1975, the city of Lauda merged with the city of Königshofen and the community of Unterbalbach as part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg to form the city of Lauda-Königshofen. Other formerly independent communities were added.
From around 1345 until its destruction in 1523, there was a moated castle in Unterbalbach , the Untere Burg Unterbalbach .

Buildings and monuments
Sights in the town include the Unterbalbach Jewish cemetery (since 1590), one of the oldest in Baden-Württemberg , and the Roman Catholic parish church of St. Markus from 1824.
Biking and hiking trails
The approximately 90 km long Taubertal Cycle Path , which extends from Wertheim am Main to Rothenburg ob der Tauber , leads through the village. The Taubertal panorama trail also leads through the village.
