The Tauberfranken barracks in Lauda was a location of the Bundeswehr Air Force and was closed in 2004 as part of the nationwide troop reduction and reduction at Bundeswehr locations . The area is currently being converted into an industrial area, for which the city founded a development company called i_PARK Tauberfranken GmbH in 2006 .
location
The former barracks is in the south of Lauda. In the northwest, the 20 hectare barracks area is bordered by the Lauda outdoor swimming pool , in the north by the Lauda volunteer fire brigade and from north to southeast by county road 2832 .
history
Tauberfranken barracks
On October 1, 1963, construction of the Tauberfranken barracks began on a 19.8 hectare site with the groundbreaking ceremony. The topping-out ceremony for the air force barracks took place on June 3, 1966. On December 6, 1968, the Bundeswehr site was named Tauberfranken barracks . The more than thirty-year history of the air force base ended in March 2004 when the last soldiers left the barracks on the outskirts of Lauda.
The formerly stationed units included:
- Two departments of the telecommunications regiment 32, later the radar guidance department 23.
- Air Force First Aid Squadron, Telecommunications Regiment 32.
- The radio link company, the 8./Fernmelderegiment 12, entry of the soldiers in Lauda May 26, 1967 until the relocation on July 3, 1989 as telecommunication sector 124 (renaming: 8. Fm / Rgt 12 in Fm./Sektor 124) to Lechfeld.
Conversion: Development into an industrial area
The closure of the site by the former 1,000 soldiers and civilian workers was associated with significant losses in economic and purchasing power. After negotiating land with the Federal Agency for Real Estate Affairs in 2006, the city of Lauda-Königshofen took over the former barracks area with all buildings and founded a development company called i_PARK Tauberfranken GmbH . The conversion of the former Bundeswehr location has been progressing since then, with several commercial areas being created.
Surname
The barracks was named after the Tauberfranken region, a part of the Franconian region that is largely located in Baden-Württemberg . The Tauberfranken region is almost congruent with the Main-Tauber district to which the city of Lauda belongs.
