The FFH area Nordwestliches Tauberland and Brehmbach is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-6423-341) in the Main-Tauber district in Franconia, which was registered in 2005 by the Stuttgart regional council according to Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) Northeast of Baden-Württemberg . The FFH area is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas . With the ordinance of the regional council of Stuttgart on the definition of areas of community importance of October 30, 2018, the protected area was established.

The FFH area includes dry slopes and mountain peaks, especially along the side valleys of the Tauber with predominantly very dry site conditions and an outstanding inventory of species, species-rich, light deciduous forests , and structurally rich valleys of Brehmbach and Muckbach .

Protection purpose

The following habitat types according to Annex I of the Habitats Directive occur in the area:

  • Limestone (semi) dry lawns and their stages of shrubbery (* orchid-rich stands)
  • Lean, lowland hay meadows
  • Limestone scree slopes of the colline to montane level
  • Alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests
  • Bedstraw-oak-hornbeam forests
  • Orchid-lime-beech forests
  • Juniper stands on dwarf shrub heaths or limestone lawns
  • Base-rich or lime pioneer lawn
  • Running waters with flooding aquatic vegetation
