The FFH area Taubergrund Weikersheim-Niederstetten is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-6625-341) in the Main-Tauber district and in the district that was registered in 2004 by the Stuttgart regional council in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) Schwäbisch Hall in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg . The FFH area is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas . The FFH area includes the Vorbachtal with side valleys south of Weikersheim with extremely structured slopes as well as the Tauber and Tauber slopes around Weikersheim, the Aschbach with dry slopes and surrounding species-rich deciduous forests , on the dry slopes numerous mighty stone bars .

Protection purpose

The following habitat types according to Annex I of the Habitats Directive occur in the area:

  • Tufa springs
  • Limestone (semi) dry lawns and their stages of shrubbery (* orchid-rich stands)
  • Moist tall herbaceous vegetation
  • Lean, lowland hay meadows
  • Limestone cliffs with crevice vegetation
  • Mixed ravine and hillside forests
  • Alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests
  • Orchid-lime-beech forests
  • Rivers with goosefoot and two-tooth societies on mud banks
  • Juniper stands on dwarf shrub heaths or limestone lawns
  • Base-rich or lime pioneer lawn
  • Running waters with flooding aquatic vegetation
  • Natural and near-natural nutrient-rich still waters with spawning or frog-bite communities
