The FFH area Odenwald and Hardheim building land is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-6322-341) in the Main-Tauber district designated by ordinance of the regional councils of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart according to Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) and in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg . The FFH area is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas .

The FFH area encompasses the low mountain range of the Erfa , in a large beech forest area with bat populations, sheep-grazed shell limestone slopes with juniper heaths , lime grasslands , fresh meadows, forests, open floodplain areas, in some cases very rich in orchids.

Protection purpose

The following habitat types according to Annex I of the Habitats Directive occur in the area:

  • Tufa springs
  • Limestone (semi) dry lawns and their stages of shrubbery (* orchid-rich stands)
  • Moist tall herbaceous vegetation
  • Lean, lowland hay meadows
  • Silicate heaps of the colline to montane level
  • Mixed ravine and hillside forests
  • Alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests
  • Bedstraw-oak-hornbeam forests
  • Silicate rocks with crevice vegetation
  • Caves that are not open to tourists
  • Grove beech forests
  • Woodruff beech forests
  • Juniper stands on dwarf shrub heaths or limestone lawns
  • Base-rich or lime pioneer lawn
  • Running waters with flooding aquatic vegetation
  • Natural and near-natural nutrient-rich still waters with spawning or frog-bite communities
