The FFH area Kochertal Schwäbisch Hall-Künzelsau is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-6824-341) in the district of Schwäbisch Hall and in the Hohenlohe district registered in 2004 by the Stuttgart regional council in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) in Baden-Württemberg . The FFH area is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas . With the ordinance of the regional council of Stuttgart on the definition of areas of community importance of October 30, 2018, the protected area was established.

The FFH area includes the Kochertal with extensive, often south- exposed dry slopes, Grimmbach gorges , large deciduous forests , especially on slopes exposed to the north and east and on the plateau, the Kocher and its side streams with long, near-natural sections and ten cave entrances .

Protection purpose

The following habitat types according to Annex I of the Habitats Directive occur in the area:

  • Tufa springs
  • Limestone (semi) dry lawns and their stages of shrubbery (* orchid-rich stands)
  • Pipe grass meadows
  • Moist tall herbaceous vegetation
  • Lean, lowland hay meadows
  • Limestone cliffs with crevice vegetation
  • Mixed ravine and hillside forests
  • Alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests
  • Bedstraw-oak-hornbeam forests
  • Caves that are not open to tourists
  • Woodruff beech forests
  • Running waters with flooding aquatic vegetation
  • Natural and near-natural nutrient-rich still waters with spawning or frog-bite communities
