Steinbach is a district of the district town of Schwäbisch Hall in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Steinbach is located in the Kochertal about two kilometers up the valley and south-southeast of the city center of Schwäbisch Hall at the foot of the Comburg at the confluence of the Waschbach into the river. The center of the settlement lies to the right of the river and in the lower valley of the flowing stream, which is part of an old loop of the Kocher valley on the right, on whose mountain the Comburg stands. Newer parts of the development are in the loop as well as on and above both river banks.

history

The place (also Steinwac , 1156) was founded as a castle hamlet of the Comburg. It was a parish village in Kochertal . Around 1000 a church dedicated to St. John the Baptist is occupied. It is considered the mother church of St. Michael in Schwäbisch Hall . The Romanesque tower, which was integrated into the new building from 1717, has been preserved from the previous Romanesque building. There is also evidence of a council house and a school from 1736 in the village. In the Neustetterstrasse at the gate to Schwäbisch Hall stood a synagogue , a simple solid building from 1809, which was designed like a basilica inside . In 1811 the Jewish cemetery was created on the left bank of the river, opposite the Haller Stadtmühle. In 1930 Steinbach was incorporated into Schwäbisch Hall with the Comburg and the Einkorn , on which the ruins of a former pilgrimage chapel still stand. In 1968 the Protestant St. Martin's Church was built.
