The FFH area Jagsttal in Schöntal and monastery Forest is a 2004 by the Stuttgart Regional Council after the Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna and Habitats Directive) registered reserve (reserve identifier DE-6622-341) in Hohenlohe and in the district of Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg . The FFH area is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas . With the ordinance of the regional council of Stuttgart on the definition of areas of community importance of October 30, 2018, the protected area was established.

The FFH area comprises beech forests on the plateau between Jagst and Kocher . Steep, mostly wooded blades drain into the Kocher and Jagst valleys. On heat favored valley slopes mosaic of extensive grassland , orchard , vineyard fallow , juniper meadows , hedgerows and forests .

Protection purpose

The following habitat types according to Annex I of the Habitats Directive occur in the area:

  • Tufa springs
  • Limestone (semi) dry lawns and their stages of shrubbery (* orchid-rich stands)
  • Moist tall herbaceous vegetation
  • Lean, lowland hay meadows
  • Limestone cliffs with crevice vegetation
  • Mixed ravine and hillside forests
  • Alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests
  • Bedstraw-oak-hornbeam forests
  • Star chickweed oak hornbeam forests
  • Caves that are not open to tourists
  • Woodruff beech forests
  • Rivers with goosefoot and two-tooth societies on mud banks
  • Juniper stands on dwarf shrub heaths or limestone lawns
  • Running waters with flooding aquatic vegetation
  • Natural and near-natural nutrient-rich still waters with spawning or frog-bite communities
