Aeols tones

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aeols-Töne is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 68). The work was performed for the first time on September 17, 1849 in the Wasserglacis Recreation Park .

Remarks

The work was composed on the return of Field Marshal Radetzky to Vienna. He and his troops had been victorious in Italy and now a victory celebration was organized for him in the water glacis , at which this waltz was also premiered. In addition to the victory celebration, the people also celebrated the peace that went with it. For the meaning of the word you have to know that Aeolus is the god of the winds in Greek mythology. The work was well received. Later it was performed a little less often, and for a short time the orchestral version was also lost. The work is occasionally performed to this day. It is noteworthy that the composer Ralph Benatzky (1884–1957) included parts of the waltz in his operetta Casanova . Together with the Blindekuh waltz from the Strauss operetta Blinde Kuh , themes in the nuns' choir and Laura's singing are processed.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 8 minutes and 37 seconds. This can vary by up to a minute plus or minus depending on the performance.
