The Brehmbach is a creek over 18 km long in the north of Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the lower Tauber from the left and west near Tauberbischofsheim .

Surname

The identifier of the name of the water goes back to the old high German word breme , which means blackberry . The Bach name - like the basic word Bach itself and its many other combinations - has the female gender in the dialect of the deaf-green dialect area passed through .

geography

View up the Brehmbach valley from Königheim towards Gissigheim.

course

The Brehmbach arises from a small group of trees in the right ditch of the otherwise treeless road from Hardheim-Erfeld to Königheim - Brehmen , from where it runs in a straight line, accompanied by the traffic route, east-northeast towards Brehmen and deepens noticeably. In the village, a district road enters the valley, which is now a traffic axis up to the mouth, runs northeast below Brehmens and develops small meanders . From the next village in the valley, Gissigheim , the brook, which has now deepened about 100 meters towards the surrounding heights, flows north and soon reaches the municipality's main town, Königheim, where the valley abruptly bends to the east. Below Königheim the Brehmbach flows in a wide curve to the south around the Stammberg , on this section both high valley flanks are wooded. Then the Brehmbach enters the Tauber valley floodplain along the southern edge of Tauberbischofsheim. A mill channel leads to the roller mill on the left, which runs mostly openly through the old town and ends at the bridge. The Brehmbach, on the other hand, runs in a shorter eastward course through its floodplain to the river and flows above the city between the bridge of the B 27 and the Frankenbad from the left into the Tauber, which flows northwards here .

Catchment area

The Brehmbach drains its 90.0 km² catchment area northeast to the lower Tauber. It extends from just above the source of the main course southwest of Brehmen over 13 km to the northeast to the mouth. Mainly due to the large tributaries of the Haigerbach and Muckbach, it is extended far to the northwest and southeast, so that it is extended to 14 km from the northwest to the southeast corner.

From a natural perspective, the catchment area lies with its larger western and northern parts in the building land , with its eastern and south-eastern parts in the Tauberland . The Brehmbach itself is created in the Buch sub-area on the Ahorn of the building land, and then runs through the Königheimer Tal and Mittleres Taubertal sub-areas in the Tauberland . Via the catchment areas of the tributaries, it also has part of the sub-area Wolferstetten-Eiersheimer Höhe in the far north and the sub-area Northern building land of the building land as well as in the southeast of the sub-area Umpfer-Wachbach-Riedel of the Tauberland, of which the Königheim Valley is a subdivision.

The northern watershed separates in its western part in the forest Taubenloch from the catchment area of the Amorsbach , in the middle and eastern part from that of the Maisenbach , both left tributaries downriver into the Tauber. Behind the northeast to the mouth and then the eastern there are only few significant tributaries to the Tauber, which is very close here, with the exception of the Oberlaudaer Bach in the very southern section. At Heckfeld, the catchment area boundary bends to the west, the area on the other side now drains for a long time via the Schüpfbach and the Umpfer also above into the Tauber. Near the southwest corner of the catchment area, near Buch, the Erfa , a direct tributary of the Tauber receiving water Main, which then takes in only small tributaries from the western watershed of the Brehmbach on a north course, mostly takes in; Only the Hardheimer Bach , which rises near the northwest corner of the Brehmbach catchment area, is of some importance .

There, close to the north-western tip, is also in Taubenloch at 428.4  m above sea level. NHN highest point of the catchment area, the second highest in the oak forest at a water reservoir south above the source of the inflow from the Feldgewann lake , does not quite reach 421  m above sea level. NHN .

geology

The boundary between the natural areas of building land and Tauberland in the catchment area follows the geological layer boundary between Upper and Middle Muschelkalk , which is reached in the valley floor a little before the inlet of the Pülfringer Graben. The Lower Muschelkalk starts already below Gissigheim , in which the Brehmbach then remains up to the mouth.

The Upper Muschelkalk dominates the slightly undulating highlands away from the valley cuts. On the southern edge of the Brehmbach drainage area, it is covered by a closed blanket from Unterkeuper , of which small islands have also been preserved elsewhere in the south. Uniform distribution can be found from äolischerer deposition in geology originating Lössderivate in small-area locations.

The Brehmbach already runs to Gissigheim in a steadily widening floodplain sediment band.

Water quality

As of 2004, the Brehmbach was moderately polluted along its entire course from approximately above the confluence of the Pülfringer Bach to its own confluence (quality class II).

history

On Corpus Christi Day , June 21, 1984, heavy rain led to a flood disaster in which the Gissigheim retention basin also collapsed. Königheim was hardest hit; there was damage in the high tens of millions.

Brehmbachtal cycle path

The Brehmbachtal cycle path runs along large parts of the Brehmbach valley from Gissigheim via Königheim and the Dittwar train station to Tauberbischofsheim. There is a connection to the Muckbachtalradweg at Dittwar station and to the Taubertalradweg in Tauberbischofsheim .

The Odenwald-Madonnen-Weg , which starts in Tauberbischofsheim, initially runs along the Brehmbachtal cycle path to Königheim, before the long-distance cycle path leads through the Odenwald and Neckar valley to Heidelberg and on over the Rhine plain to Speyer .
