The Umpfer is an approximately 22 km long river in the Main-Tauber district in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the lower Tauber from the left and southwest in the Königshofen district of Lauda-Königshofen .
geography
course
The Umpfer arises northwest of the Boxberg village of Gräffingen on the northwestern edge of the Ahornwald on the Ahorn- Buch side and initially flows in a southeastern direction. It passes Uiffingen , Wölchingen and Boxberg (all to the city of Boxberg) and turns here to the northeast. In the new direction it crosses Schweigern and passes Unterschüpf (both to Boxberg) and finally passes over to the area of Lauda-Königshofen . There it touches Sachsenflur before it flows into the Tauber in Königshofen .
Catchment area
The Umpfer km² a catchment area of about 120, with its uppermost part in the subspace book on maple the natural area land , but mostly in the neighboring natural space Tauberlandpark is, of which the majority in the subspace Umpfer-Wachbach-Riedel and only the Talmündungstrichter in the Middle Tauber . The highest point is at 411.4 m above sea level. NHN above the Schüpfbach source on a forest height of the Heckfelder Ahorn south of Esselbrunn ; elsewhere on the southern and western watershed, heights of more than 390 m above sea level are found several times . NHN and a few times over 400 m above sea level. Reached NHN .
In addition to the towns mentioned in the course of the route, it also includes the villages of Angeltürn , Bobstadt , Epplingen , Kupprichhausen , Lengenrieden , Oberschüpf (all in Boxberg), Beckstein (in Lauda-Königshofen) and Dainbach (in Bad Mergentheim ). The most important tributary is the 12 km long Schüpfbach near Unterschüpf, its catchment area contributes about a quarter to that of the Umpfer.
In turn, the Umpfer borders the catchment areas of the following neighboring waters:
- on the northern watershed mainly on the Brehmbach , which drains further down to the Tauber , in the eastern part also briefly on that of the small Oberlaudaer Bach , which reaches the Tauber a little further down the Umpfer;
- in the east the Tauber itself flows so close that it does not reach any significant watercourses from the watershed;
- in the southeast the Wachbach leads the drain beyond the Scheide above into the Tauber;
- behind the southern border some streams flow to the Erlenbach , a tributary of the Jagst ;
- in the southwest, behind a short stretch of watershed, lie the headwaters of the two upper reaches of the Kessach , which also runs to the Jagst;
- the Rinna arises little beyond the western border, which also drains to the Jagst via Kirnau and then Seckach ;
- Behind another short piece of northwestern watershed, there is the Erf , still called Erfa , which reaches the Main below the Tauber .
The hydrologically most important part of the watershed runs in the south and west towards the catchment area of the Neckar , which takes in the Jagst and feeds the Rhine in front of the Main .

Water quality
As of 2004, the Umpfer was moderately stressed on its entire course from about Wölchingen to the mouth (quality class II), as was the Schüpfbach, which tapers into Unterschüpf from about Kupprichhausen.
traffic
Frankenbahn
The relatively wide valley of the Umpfer, together with those of the Kirnau and Kessach, offers a convenient connection between the Tauber and the lower Jagst and thus also between the greater areas around Würzburg and Heilbronn . The Frankenbahn runs through it along its entire length, the B 292 between Königshofen and Wölchingen.
Umpfertal cycle path
The Umpfertal cycle path runs along large parts of the Umpfertal. The bike path is completely paved. In Unterschüpf there is a connection to the Schüpfbachtalradweg and in Königshofen to the Taubertalradweg .
