Wölchingen is located in the Umpfertal , a side valley of the Tauber , and a small right side valley of the Umpfer, and has meadow valleys with many springs and surrounding forests. For the boundaries of the former commune Wölchingen the village include Wölchingen ( ) and the living space Waldhaus ( ) and possibly the Outbound village Giffinger reason. To the west, the development is almost connected to the town of Boxberg.

history

middle Ages

The place was first mentioned in 1221 as Wolechingen . The name probably comes from a personal name. A few graves northwest of the cemetery from the second half of the 7th century provide evidence of an earlier settlement of the place. Wölchingen was always connected to the Boxberg rule, with it came to the Johanniter in 1287 and to the Lords of Rosenberg in 1381 .

Already in 1239 a Johanniterkommende was mentioned in Wölchingen. After 1287 the seat of the Kommende was moved to Boxberg Castle and sold with it in 1381.

Modern times

In 1561 the place came to Electoral Palatinate. With the office and the tithe Boxberg, the place was pledged from 1691 to 1740. In 1803 Wölchingen came to the Principality of Leiningen before the place became Baden in 1806. The office affiliation is identical to that of the neighboring village Boxberg. In the time of the Palatinate, Wölchingen and Boxberg formed a municipality and only became an independent municipality in 1833.

On December 1, 1972 Boxberg merged with Schweigern and Wölchingen to form the new town of Boxberg.
