Gissigheim is a district of the municipality of Königheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg .

Gissigheim is located about three kilometers southwest of Königheim in the Brehmbachtal . The former community of Gissigheim includes the village of Gissigheim ( ⊙ ), the hamlet of Hof Esselbrunn ( ⊙ ), the Badholz settlement ( ⊙ ), the Ried settlement ( ⊙ ), the Schwarzfeld settlement ( ⊙ ) and the Kettenmühle residential areas ( ⊙ ) , Oil and saw mill ( ⊙ ), cutting mill ( ⊙ ) and lower mill ( ⊙ ).

Protected areas

There is a water protection area in the Gissigheim district : Dittwar / Königheim / Gissigheim / Heckfeld / Oberlauda water protection area (WSG No. 128208); 5986.90 ha; since July 22, 1994. It is one of the largest water protection areas in the Main-Tauber district .

history

Gissigheim was probably founded as a Franconian settlement as early as the 6th century, as the name ending "heim" suggests. In 1013 the village was first mentioned in a document as "Gissinkein" in a land register of the Amorbach monastery , a Benedictine monastery. On January 1, 1972, Gissigheim was incorporated into the municipality of Königheim.

Bettendorf Castle

The Bettendorfsche Schloss is a baroque palace built in Gissigheim in the 16th century.

Guardian Angel Chapel

With the Guardian Angel Chapel, there is a baroque chapel in Gissigheim. The chapel was built in 1712 by the Gissigheim noble family von Bettendorf as a stately tomb.

Recreation

A Kneipp facility was set up in 2009 as part of a 72-hour campaign by 27 young people from the village on Roßbrunn, a square in the middle of forest and meadows.

Biking and hiking trails

Gissigheim is on the Brehmbachtal cycle path , which leads via Königheim and Dittwar station to the Taubertal cycle path near Tauberbischofsheim . The ninth circular hiking trail in the Lieblichen Taubertal (LT9) called Via the Hohe Bild to the Guardian Angel Chapel leads from Königheim via Weikerstetten and Gissigheim to the Guardian Angel Chapel and back. Gissigheim is also located on the Liebliches Taubertal cycle path - the sporty one .
