history

In Roman times, the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes near Neusaß ran in a north-south direction through the suburb of Glashofen. Its settlement area, in turn, lies east of the Limes, i.e. outside the former boundary. The remains of four Roman watchtowers were found in the district. In addition to the watchtower “ Wp 7/31 ”, the foundations of a Roman administration or storage building were discovered in the Steinernes Haus district. In the 19th century, Wp 7/31 was also called Hönehaus - not to be confused with the small fort Hönehaus a few kilometers away . This is where the locally known legend of the giant maiden takes place.

The first surviving mention of the place as a glass furnace dates back to 1286. The place name is probably derived from the name Nikolaus: 'Hof des Klas'. The district was probably separated from the great Franconian Urmark Dürn in the course of the colonization of the Odenwald .

In 1935 Reinhardsachsen, Kaltenbrunn , Gerolzahn and Gottersdorf were incorporated into Glashofen, but were separated again in 1945.

During the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg , Glashofen was incorporated into the city of Walldürn on January 1, 1975.
