Wettersdorf is a district of Walldürn in the Neckar-Odenwald district in the north of Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

Wettersdorf is located about six kilometers northeast of the city center in the upper valley section of the Eichelbach, immediately south of the border with Bavaria and the Miltenberg district . The Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park includes parts of the district.

history

The high medieval clearing hamlet was first mentioned in a document in 1293 as "Wedylspach" and in 1395 and 1482 as "Wedelspach ober dem dorffe", probably from "Bach des Wedel". Details about the origin or the original ownership are not known.

From 1544 Wettersdorf belonged to the Kurmainzer Amt and the Dürn winery. Some possessions that the Würzburg Monastery had here were also transferred to Kurmainz in 1684 through a settlement. In 1803 the place became part of the Principality of Leiningen as part of the secularization , then in 1806 to the Grand Duchy of Baden .

From 1935 to 1945 Dornberg , Rütschdorf and Vollmersdorf (today all of them in Hardheim ) were incorporated into Wettersdorf. On December 1, 1972, it was incorporated into Walldürn.

The chapel of St. Ottilia was first mentioned in 1734. Wettersdorf belonged to the Catholic parish Walldürn until 1908, and since then to Glashofen .

Former coat of arms

In 1908 the municipality adopted the following coat of arms at the suggestion of the General State Archives: "Two red-armored silver (white) eagles above in blue in a divided shield, below half an eight-spoke silver (white) wheel at the division". The coat of arms expired on December 1, 1972 when it was incorporated into Walldürn.

Wettersdorf light museum

In the former school house is the Wettersdorf Light Museum , a special museum with a collection of over 2000 historical lanterns, lamps and chandeliers, which is open on the first Sunday of each month from April to October inclusive.
