Hornbach is a district of Walldürn in the Neckar-Odenwald district , Baden-Württemberg . The place consists of Großhornbach and Kleinhornbach.

Geographical location

Hornbach is located in the eastern Odenwald on the plateau between the Morre and Eiderbach valleys , about 5.5 kilometers west of the city center. Großhornbach is an irregular street village, Kleinhornbach is a loose hamlet about 750 m northwest of it. In the Bandholz district near Kleinhornbach lies at 471  m above sea level. NHN the highest point in Walldürn. The Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park also extends over parts of the district.

history

The clearing settlement Hornbach was first mentioned in 1340 as "Hornbuch". Several spellings are known in the following, such as "To the two Hornbach", "Great and Cleyn Hornbach" and "In czwen Hornbach". The name originated from "horawin" (swampy) and "buoch" (beech forest).

Until 1803 Hornbach belonged to the Würzburg monastery and the Rippberg office . As part of secularization , it came to the Principality of Leiningen , and in 1806 to the Grand Duchy of Baden .

In 1935, Groß- and Kleinhornbach were combined into one community. On January 1, 1975, it was incorporated into Walldürn. Hornbach forms a common village with Rippberg .

In terms of church, Hornbach initially belonged to Buchen , from 1340 to the newly established parish of Hainstadt and from 1594 to the then independent parish of Rippberg.

Former coat of arms

In 1958, the Ministry of the Interior issued a coat of arms based on a proposal from the General State Archives from 1908. "In silver (white) above a blue wave shield base, a green floor, on it a green beech with a black trunk." The coat of arms expired on January 1, 1975 when it was incorporated into Walldürn.
