geography
course
The Eiderbach rises at about 406 m above sea level. NHN as Eiterbach north-east of Hainstadt next to the Kirchenwald at the Lappen and Eiderbachgraben nature reserve , a wetland in its uppermost valley floodplain that runs north-northwest there. After crossing under the B 27 , he changes at the inlet of a stream from the left and right from the predominantly open natural area of building land to the predominantly wooded natural area of Odenwald . As it did before on the border between the urban areas of Buchen on the left and Walldürn on the right, it now runs through an ever deeper forest valley with initially only a few short tributaries to the northwest.
East of the now Walldürner town of Hornbach at the inlet of the Fockengraben, which approaches from the south on the border between Buchen and Walldürn, it changes entirely to Walldürner area. There two further tributaries flow into a valley spider . There are now more and more meadows on the valley floor and the valley moves more and more northwards. At another tributary to the left, the Eiderbach passes the Walldürner Linkenmühle and passes under the Hornbacher Landstrasse (K 3968). On the outskirts of the Walldürner village of Rippberg , it already flows northwards, in the village it then flows at 207.8 m above sea level. NHN from the left and as its largest tributary into the lower reaches of the Marsbach .
The Eiderbach flows after a 12.5 km long run with a mean slope of about 16 ‰ about 198 meters below its origin.

Nature and protected areas
In addition to its uppermost course, the Eiderbach flows through a sparsely populated landscape in the building land. Initially partly straightened, in the Odenwald it shows a quite natural course with turns. At the top it crosses the Lappen and Eiderbachgraben nature reserve , the lower course runs through the Marsbachtal and Eiderbachtal nature reserve from around the inlet of the Fockengraben to the outskirts of Rippberg . Almost the entire catchment area lies in the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park .
