The Keep It True is a music festival that takes place twice a year from 2003 to 2008 and once a year from 2009 with bands from the more traditional metal sector . It was started by Tarek Maghary (singer of the heavy metal band Majesty ) and Oliver Weinsheimer (editor of the magazine “ Rock Hard ”) primarily as a festival “by fans for fans” and takes place in Lauda-Königshofen in the Tauberfrankenhalle .

Originally planned as a one-day Saturday event, Keep It True was expanded to include an official warm-up show on Friday in its second year . While the first warm-up show was still taking place in a tent near the event location on the grounds of the Alibi, it was moved to KIT III in the parish cellar in Lauda. But since this room had already become too small at the next festival, they moved to the small sports hall in Dittigheim , where the warm-up show up to KIT VIII took place. A separate ticket had to be purchased for the warm-up show. From KIT VII to KIT IX there was only one small festival in Dittigheim in November without a warm-up show.

KIT X took place in April 2008 in the Tauberfrankenhalle in Lauda-Königshofen for the first time as a full two-day event. With the eleventh edition of the festival in November 2008, which took place once in Würzburg , the editions that take place twice a year came to an end. Since April 2009 the festival has taken place once a year in April as a two-day event without a warm-up show.

With the Hammer of Doom and the Metal Assault , further genre-specific festivals have emerged from the KIT.

particularities

Torch live at KIT IV.

The band selection does not follow the usual guidelines of a typical mainstream festival: Mostly international bands appear that can be assigned to the heavy and power metal spectrum. Since there are hardly any such specialized festivals, Keep It True has enjoyed a steady following in the scene since the beginning and has now become a fixture beyond the national borders.

The headliners have already been big names like Virgin Steele , Riot , Jag Panzer and Omen . The festival received special attention when bands like Deadly Blessing or Torch made their first stage appearance in several years on the Keep It True . It is not uncommon for fans from abroad to come to see their favorite group's reunion.

The festival realizes the comparatively low admission prices with the help of some well-known sponsors such as Massacre Records or Rock Hard as well as numerous volunteers. Furthermore, Keep It True is not organized full-time and is therefore not aiming to maximize profits.

criticism

Occasionally there were bad grades from the trade press for bands that were obviously badly performed due to a long creative break (e.g. Hallows Eve ) or whose sound did not meet expectations. However, the organization and course of the festival were unanimously positive.

Publications

DVDs or LPs are released for the individual concerts. The Keep It True History Book was also published for KIT X on April 4 and 5, 2008 . The book contains reviews and photos of all Keep-It-True festivals so far, as well as short statements from many bands who have played on the Keep It True.
