Warhammer is a German Doom , Death and Thrash Metal band from Castrop-Rauxel that was founded in 1994, split up in 2001 and reunited in 2006.

history

The band was formed in 1994 and was a kind of tribute band for the disbanded Swiss band Hellhammer ; The idea of founding the band arose when the band Celtic Frost emerged from Hellhammer in 1984 , and Krynojewski was disappointed with their first EP Morbid Tales, Frank "Necros II". 1996 followed the first demo Towards the Chapter of Chaos , whereby the band got a contract with Voices Productions ; there the debut album The Winter of Our Discontent was released in 1997. The album featured Frank Krynojewski (electric guitar, electric bass), singer Volker French and drummer Rolf Meyn. Deathchrist followed in 1999 as the next album on Grind Syndicate Media , a sub-label of Nuclear Blast . Guitarist Rainer Filipiak was a new member on the album. The third album The Doom Messiah was released in 2000 on the same label. The fourth album Curse of the Absolute Eclipse was released in 2002 via Nuclear Blast. The band consisted of Krynojewski (electric guitar, electric bass), singer French, and drummer Jens Küchental, who had replaced Meyn. The band split up in 2001 before reuniting in 2006. In 2009 the album No Beast So Fierce was released ... self-released before it was re-released in 2010 via High Roller Records .

style

The band's sound is very similar to Hellhammer's . Frank Krynojewsksi explained that the band used rare effect devices from the 1970s for the guitars in order to reproduce the sound of Hellhammer, which, according to Martin Eric Ain , came about by chance. Krynoyevsky spoke out against allegations of plagiarizing Hellhammer; The band writes "only songs that we think could have come from Hellhammer if they had continued back then." With The Doom Messiah , the band “[finally […] reached the point where we can compete with Hellhammer. I was sweating blood and water while recording the new work because the things were anything but easy to play. If people think that they know exactly what to expect from us in the future, then they are wrong. Because now the further development begins. ”Despite the strong Hellhammer influence, The Doom Messiah reminded Patrick Schmidt from Legacy of Slayer's debut album Show No Mercy due to the high tempo .
