Psychotic Waltz is the name of a progressive metal band that was founded in El Cajon , USA in 1988 and split up in 1997 after four official albums.
history
The original line-up was between 1982 and 1988. Dan Rock and Buddy Lackey attended the same high school . Rock met Norm Leggio and Brian McAlpin. He suffered paraplegia as a result of a serious car accident , but continued to work as a guitarist in a wheelchair. Another of Dan Rock's schoolmates is Mike Clift, the creator of the artwork for the first two albums.
Psychotic Waltz published the first demo under the name Aslan, which referred to the lion from The Chronicles of Narnia . The name was changed because there was already another band with the same name. The first two albums were mainly successful in Europe. A Social Grace and Into the Everflow received consistently good reviews in the scene magazines and some were named album of the month.
For the album Mosquito Ward Evans was replaced by Phil Cuttino. On the tour that followed the release of Bleeding , Steve Cox replaced Brian McAlpin. In addition to musical differences that often drive bands apart, the main thing in the case of Psychotic Waltz was a lengthy legal process: after the video clip for the song Faded was shot , an extra sued the band because one of the set lights was supposed to have been to blame for his blindness .
Buddy Lackey renamed himself Devon Graves, moved from Los Angeles to Vienna and founded the band Deadsoul Tribe . Dan Rock dedicated himself to Darkstar , a project he had started when Psychotic Waltz still existed. He was also active in End Amen with Norm Leggio . Norm Leggio and Steve Cox formed the band Teabag after the end of Psychotic Waltz . Brian McAlpin also continued to work as a musician.
Towards the end of the 20th century, two more samplers with previously unreleased material by the band were released. In 2004, Metal Blade released two box sets, each containing two albums ( Into the Everflow & Bleeding and A Social Grace & Mosquito ) and bonus material in the form of demo recordings and live videos.
In September 2010 a reunion with the cast of the first two albums was announced and a tour with Nevermore and Symphony X was announced and carried out afterwards . The band performed at the Wacken Open Air in 2017 .
A new studio album has been announced for the beginning of 2020. The God-Shaped Void was released on February 14, 2020. On December 13, 2019, the single Devils and Angels was released.
