Atrophy was a thrash metal band from Tucson , USA.

history

It was founded by Chris Lykins, James Gulotta, and Brian Zimmerman. The original band name was Heresy , but after the band were completed with Tim Kelly and Rick Skowron, they changed their name.

In 1987 the band produced two cassette demos, after which the major label Roadrunner Records became aware of them. They recorded two albums: Socialized Hate in 1988 and Violent by Nature in 1990 and toured the US and Europe with bands such as Sacred Reich from Arizona and the Swiss band Coroner .

After the European tour, Chris Lykins left the band to study medicine. The band tried to continue with new members and they even achieved a few demo recordings for a third album, but Roadrunner Records lost confidence in the band as Chris Lykins was one of the main songwriters of the band. So it happened that the collaboration with the label was discontinued.

Tim Kelly and James Gulotta then founded the band Head Circus, in which Rick Skowron was also a member. However, no album has yet been produced. Chris Lykins graduated from medical school and is now an ear, nose and throat specialist. James Gulotta has a roof tile business and Rick Skowron is an aerospace engineer and avid motorcycle racer.

style

The band's characteristic features include the fast guitar solos. Atrophy is compared to bands like Flotsam and Jetsam and Sacred Reich , but also Nuclear Assault , Forbidden and Death Angel .
