Metal Forces was an English publication which was published from autumn 1983 to 1992 and specialized in metal and hard rock .

The magazine was particularly well known for its promotion of unknown artists in their section called Demolition . Artists like Metallica , Slayer , Megadeth , HellsBelles , Overkill and Poison were featured in it long before these bands became known.

Dave Reynolds, a former editor of Metal Forces , said that the magazine was the first to use the terminology Thrash Metal and Death Metal .

A vinyl album compiled by Metal Forces , Demolition - Scream Your Brains Out! was released in 1988 on the Chain Reaction Records label, which was based on the Demolition section of the magazine and included titles by the bands Anacrusis , Atrophy , Hobbs' Angel of Death , Aftermath and Leviathan .

In addition to heavy metal artists, alternative rock artists such as Nirvana were also featured in the magazine.

The editorial office was in Stevenage , Hertfordshire , England .

background

Metal Forces was founded in 1983 by Bernard Doe. The first issue was in the autumn of 1983. During its publication time, the magazine was one of the top music magazines in England. In early 1990 the magazine changed its subject area to mainstream and successful artists. The change was unsuccessful, however, and so the magazine lost readers and thus the circulation decreased . As a result, advertising revenue dwindled. A total of 72 issues of the magazine appeared. The last issue was published in 1992.

Controversy

In 1984 Metal Forces published an article about the black metal band Hellhammer , in which the band was portrayed very negatively. As a result, the band's guitarist, Tom Warrior , announced that he would never perform in England again for this reason. After the musician formed a new band ( Celtic Frost ), he continued to deny interviews to the magazine.

In 1986, former Metallica guitarist and founder of Megadeth , Dave Mustaine, complained about the magazine because it named his successor at Metallica, Kirk Hammett, the # 1 readers' choice. This choice was based on a demo recording of No Life 'Til Leather , which recorded Mustaine rather than Hammett.

Reappear

In 2012 Metal Forces published a new website, which, as before, deals with metal and hard rock groups and musicians.
