Salon.com is an Internet - magazine , which its authors and readers mainly in the United States has. Thematically, however, it has a more global orientation and reports on politics and culture from a left-liberal perspective.

The web magazine is published by Salon.com INC in San Francisco . It was founded in 1995 by David Talbot , an American journalist who used to work in New York for "Interview" and for " Playboy " . He is considered a pioneer of upscale online journalism , but only acts as Chief of Board.

In 1997, 1998 and 1999 Salon received the Webby Award in the Best Online Magazine category .

Purpose & content

Salon.com sees itself as a web node for contemporary, cultural exchange. Categories are news, politics, entertainment, business , but also life, tech and sustainability .

Prizes awarded

Between 1996 and 2011, the authors presented the Salon Book Award annually in various categories, which was replaced by the What To Read Award in 2012 .
