Hobbs' Angel of Death is an Australian thrash metal band from Melbourne that formed in 1986, disbanded in 1996 and re-formed in 2002. They are one of the first Australian bands in the genre. So far, the band released the two albums Hobbs 'Angel of Death (1988) and Inheritance (1995) and the compilation Hobbs' Satan's Crusade (2003).
history
The band was founded in Melbourne in January 1987, although it was initially only intended as a solo project by ex- Tyrus guitarist Peter Hobbs. A short time later, the ex- Nothing-Sacred members Karl Lean (electric bass), Sham Littleman (drums) and Mark Woolley (electric guitar) joined the line-up. This was followed by the recording of the first two demos Angel of Death and Virgin Metal Invasion from Down Under , which attracted the attention of various labels from overseas. They were one of the first Australian bands to play European thrash metal.
In February and March 1988 the band went to the Musiclab Studios in Berlin to record their debut album Hobbs' Angel of Death . The album was produced by Harris Johns , was released in July on the German label Steamhammer Records and achieved good sales, especially in Europe. In addition to Hobbs and Woolley, bassist Philip Gresik and drummer Darren McMaster-Smith could be heard on the album. In 1989 the band went on tour, with Bruno Canziani playing drums and Dave Frew playing bass.
The second album Inheritance was released in 1995. However, the album was released exclusively in Australia. The band split shortly after the album was released.
In 2002 the band reunited and released a compilation that featured two early demos. The band played a European tour, which also included an appearance at the Wacken Open Air . On the tour the band played together with groups like Destruction and Mayhem . Keyboard Talie Hélène left the band in July 2003, although she had never made a recording or played a concert with the band. She formed her own band called Stone Maiden. After that, the band reached a contract with Modern Invasion Music .
style
The band plays classic Thrash Metal, as a mixture of old works of Slayer and the album Extreme aggression of Kreator is described.
