The Free & Easy Festival is an annual, multi-day free music, film and culture festival in Munich.
history
The Free & Easy Festival was organized for the first time in 1995 by the Backstage cultural center in cooperation with the municipal youth culture agency. Right from the start, the Free & Easy was based on a non-commercial concept.
The multi-day Free & Easy Festival, which was held for 12 days in 1996 and 2014 for example B. lasted 19 days, financed exclusively through the income from drinks and food and therefore costs no entry to this day. This concept enables a colorful mix of concerts, cultural events, readings and film screenings to this day. Until 1999 the Free & Easy Festival was organized together with the Bunter Hund - International Short Film Festival Munich .
In addition to newcomers from the near Munich area, international bands such as B. Dog Eat Dog , DOA or Agnostic Front . With free admission, the Free & Easy Festival is not only a platform for artists to address a broader audience, but above all offers the opportunity for visitors to get a taste of the less well-known sub-genres themselves, beyond their own taste limits.
From 1995 to 2001 the Free & Easy Festival was held on the Helmholtzstr. 18, 80636 Munich, organized from 2001 to 2007 Friedenheimer Brücke 7 and has since taken place on the site at Reitknechtstr. 6 instead.
In 2010 the program of the Free & Easy Festival was expanded to include concerts, film and culture with the heading “Free Easy Politics”. Discussions on topics such as B. Globalization is taking place.
The scope, size and duration of the festival have varied since the beginning. While the 1998 festival lasted only 12 days and performed 120 bands, in 2014 it was 19 days and over 200 bands.

resonance
Due to the free entry, it is difficult to make an exact statement about the number of visitors. However, this is given in various festival guides as 20,000 to 25,000. In the early years of 1996, the co-organizer, Kulturzentrum Backstage, calculated that 1000 visitors would be needed per day so that the festival would not make a loss.
